Internet ad revenues are going up. Contrary to popular belief, advertising is not dead. Not that this will save the endless number of startups that are going to fold in the next year, but it cannot hurt. IAB.net is reporting that ad revenues for the internet were up to $23,000,000,000 (23 billion) in 2008. Take away the Google share of that, and then divide that by the number of websites, and you get an idea of how divided this pie is.
However, positive news is positive news. Even in the opening jaws of the recession, the internet is going strong. Never discount innovation. As long as this continues, we can keep the sky from falling on our heads. However, if the ad rates decline any more than 5% due to the recession, We are going to see websites shuttering like windows before a storm.
