Facebook Advertising Fail

By Michael Klurfeld on April 18, 2009

newfacebookadFacebook is in a very powerful position when it comes to advertising since, like Google, their users are constantly throwing infomation at them which screams “Please advertise to me about X, Y, and Z!” So it always comes as a pretty big surprise when the ads displayed have absolutely nothing to do with the user.

The picture displayed here comprises the ads I saw in a column on a recent visit to Facebook. Apparently the advertising algorithm is convinced that I interested in both contact lenses and attractive German women. On the first ad: I don’t wear glasses. On the second, I will not deny that pictures of pretty girls will almost always make something more enticing, but I don’t speak German. So the “attracktive Singlefraun” are just going to have to wait.
