I Got Rid Of Google – Replaced With Twoquick

By Holden Page on May 27, 2009

twoquick_logo_alphaKISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, an acronym that many people say start ups should live by. Well Twoquick has taken KISS to heart. Made by Proletarian Design, TwoQuick allows you to search a query on both Google and Twitter. Instead of merging and organizing the results like Searchmerge does, the searches are displayed in two seperate panels clearly labeled. This solves three issues for Twoquick.

1. Irrelevant results

Searchmerge had trouble pulling relevent results. This creates an experience that is poor and relatively useless. Twoquick lets the big dogs handle the relevancy and simply pulls what you would normally see when going to the native Google.com or Twitter Search home page.

2. Slow Load Times2009-05-26_222217

Organizing data takes a lot of work, once again Google and Twitter do all the real work (well Twitter… sometimes) all Twoquick does is pull that data in. Nothing to special is going on.

3. Pulse/Traditional

I am big believer that Traditional search and real-time search both have relative and equally strong footholds in how search will be conducted in the future. Twoquick gives me the power of Google for relevant, more powerful results, while giving me a quick overview of what the general web thinks about the query I am searching.

4. Final Thought

While I love Twoquicks simplicity and clean layout a few tweaks here and there would get me hooked on Twoquick even more than I already am. One tweak that would be greatly appreciated would be not refreshing the whole page when clicking the next button in either the Google or Twitter panel. Refreshing inside that panel would be a better, more user friendly option. Also, an actual live stream in the Twitter panel would be greatly appreciated.

For the record,  Twoquicks doesn’t really do a damn thing beyond splitting up search results from Twitter and Google, and keeping everything clean and simple. So simple and so useful in its own way that it has become my home page, replacing my long default home page love for Google. While I still use Google indirectly to search, it is funny how quickly one can move away from such a glaring presence like Google in a matter of seconds. Give Twoquicks a quick try, I am sure you will like it too.
