Wal-mart announced plans today to rebuild their electronics section. The move, claims the company, is spurred by the fact that “Circuit City’s business is up for grabs right now.” But the most notable piece of this story is that Wal-Mart says that it will soon be selling the Palm Pre, which so far received more buzz than any mobile device to be released this year. This is big news because many of us were under the impression that the Palm Pre would be for some time a Best Buy-exclusive product. While this move is certainly good for both Palm and Wal-Mart, as it puts the former in one of the biggest retail stores in the world and gives the latter one of the biggest electronics to hit markets this year, Best Buy cannot be to happy that they lost exclusivity.
Update: there is more Pre news from the New York Times today saying that the Pre will probably be out in the first week of June, so we’ll know about exclusivity soon enough.
