There was a scare a while back in beta versions of the 3.0 firmware for the iPhone; users had to pay for the apps they had already bought if they wanted to redownload them directly to the iPhone. But now Apple is claiming that it was merely a bug, and one that they quashed. Of course, anyone with half a brain will quickly think that this was no bug – who has ever heard of a bug that writes its own text? Apple was experimenting with a new business model: either wait until you get back to your computer to redownload the application, or pay to get it right away. They figured there was money to be made from the people who need things right away. But when this became quite detrimental from a PR standpoint, Apple decided to turn and run away. Smart move on their point, though one would hope they could lie a little better.
