TweetCrunch is now reporting (via @parislemon) that Bing has now declined to be the number three search engine after one day being number two. Can we get over this from of analytics. Here, quick, how accurate is Compete.com about calculating your websites statistics? You know that they are horseshit, as are Alexa and Quantcast. Past awkwardly broad strokes, they are pointless. And that is month over month.
So Statcounter, apparently calculates hourly stats for search engines. Think about that, they are monitoring traffic (via algorithms) to search engines all the time. That makes sense, if they were going to calculate stats daily, they still grab data all the time. So, if they are already doing that, why not put it up hourly? Fair enough.
My point is this, you know that this data is bunk, to even attempt this is comical. I have worked at the best damn analytics company in the world, and have been around the basis of statistics. Alexa, QuantCast, Statcounter are all bunk. My tip is this, take anything that online analytics services tell you with this outlook: “yeah right.” MG Siegler at the TechCrunch HQ are tracking Bing’s launch quite closely (thanks, as an aside), but this is ridiculous.
Give Bing 3 months, then we can see, perhaps, what is happening.
