Glue, a Firefox addon that lets you see what your friends think about certain items such as book, music, movies, and other items, just released its API. In case you never heard of Glue, it is a Firefox toolbar that shows you other people who have visited the same product online, and allows you to get recommendations from them. It sees that you are on a site like Netflix, and then gives you a toolbar on top of the page that shows you which of your friends have visited the same product, and what they have to say about it.
With their new API, developers are able to integrate Glue into their site, or access a user’s data. That way you not only have Glue in your toolbar, but you can have applications that can show you Glue data on a website in new and interesting ways.
Glue recently did a contest for developers who use their new API, and got some interesting results. The winner of their contest wanted to get around the fact that he couldn’t install Glue on his work computer. He created GlueToGo, which is a bookmarklet that packs all the functionality of Glue into a single click. Check out more applications here.
