My Twitter account was OVER RUN with spam, it was to the point Twitter wasn’t functional for me any longer. I was missing the majority of tweets I cared about simply because one Twitter account would take up my whole timeline. It was very frustrating to find anything worth while and I was beginning to grow tired of the mess spam was creating on my timeline. Then my fellow blogger Tyler discovered Huitter Mutuality, a Twitter application that allows you to unfollow everyone on Twitter.
It is fairly simple to work with the tool, all you have to do is enter your Twitter username/password and select from the various options. These options are: Unfollow all/Unfollow all who do not follow back/Follow all who follow you. You can also exclude certain people on your follow list so Huitter doesn’t unfollow them. After choosing the best option that suits your best needs, just click the go button and you’re ready to roll.
Keep in mind that this tool is nowhere near instantaneous, I was following nearly 1,000 people and it took ten minutes for Hiattus to unfollow all of them. I can’t imagine how long it would take for larger accounts, but the time spent unfollowing everyone manually would take much longer. A word of caution, a lot of Twitter folk are insulted if you unfollow them, so expect a severe drop in followers, as fast as Huitter Mutuality unfollowed people was as fast my followers steadily dropped.
Huitter Mutuality is definitely not for everyone and is surely a once in a blue moon tool, but if you want to start out with a clean slate this is the perfect way to do so. If you plan on using Huitter Mutuality make sure to let us know why in the comments and tell us why you are using.
