Hulu Broken For Playstation Users

By Michael Klurfeld on June 29, 2009

ps3huluIt always sucks when the suits break your toys, and that seems to be what happened for people who watch Hulu via their PS3s. For those who don’t know, the Playstation browser supports Flash, so Hulu had worked on it before. But now it seems that the string of code which tells the servers which browser you’re running is set to display this image if you try to load up a video on Hulu with anything marked as the PS3.

It is possible that Sony is in bed with Hulu to block PS3 access. Why, you ask? To drive sales of movies and other videos via the Playstation Video Store, which allows PS3 owners to rent and buy videos via downloads. If this is the case, it would be yet another shady business deal designed at driving profit at the expense of a fair user experience, and a misguided one at that. After all, streaming a show on Hulu is a very different level of commitment than actually buying episodes.
