Sometimes we forget how awesome technology is and how much our world has become like work of science fiction. I mean, the internet is cool and all, but we take it for granted as we’ve had it for so long. But every once in a while, some really cool news comes along that makes me do a double-take. Today we have two.
First off, we have contact lenses that cure blindness. Welsh and Australian researchers devised method to harvest stem cells from the eyes of a blinded patient (from the patient himself, so the chances of rejection are negligible) and then place them on a contact lens, which rebuilds the blinded patient’s eyesight. Watch the video below for more (it’s not graphic, but those who are bizarrely squeamish might find some parts upsetting.
Next up we have an improvement in machines that let people read your mind. Yeah, that’s right, not machines that read your mind. That’s already happened. But now the electrodes only have to be in contact with the brain; nothing has to be inserted into any cerebral tissue. Yeah, it’s the future.
Quick Note: Some of you might recall the Star Wars toy which allows the lucky kids who have it to levitate a ball with their minds. But that works by merely reading brain waves, not by reading full-fledged thoughts.
