After some buzz about some new Android happenings, a T-Mobile spokesperson has finally come out and said that yes, a new Android device would be announced next week. Suspicions are that the handset to be announced will be the Google Ion, which was already given away free to attendees of Google’s I/O conference. The Ion (also known as the MyTouch) , in addition to being a welcome addition to the family of Android phones already on the market, all one of them, will make for a good litmus test. A while back, this roadmap, supposedly of T-Mobile’s plan for Android releases, says the G2 will be released sometime this summer. So if the map is right in this case, we may be able to expect that sexy-tastic Bigfoot this autumn. Also, if the leak was of accurate information, the Ion will be $179, though that is presumably with the signing for a contract.
Update: The HTC Magic/G2 is already out. In fact, it’s sold almost a million units. Sorry ’bout that earlier screw-up.
