I do love a gamble when I believe that I am getting my money in good on the odds. So, when it came time to make a bet on the Pre, I was jacked up for a successful launch. John Biggs, writer at CrunchGear, did not agree. We made a friendly gamble, that whoever was right, would buy the other lunch when we were in the same city the next time. Well, I should gear my ass up and head to New York, because Biggs owes me some free food. If I can quote CNET News for a second:
Analysts called the Palm Pre launch a success, but supplies were tight. Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Walkley deemed the initial Pre sales “solid.” And J.P. Morgan analyst Paul Coster reckoned that most Sprint stores he called were sold out. Some reps claimed that the Pre was sold out nationwide. The rub: Stores didn’t carry many Pre devices at launch. If Palm had had more money, we all know that they could have built more Pre’s, but they did not. The supply lines will open, and the Pre will sell. John will buy me lunch, and I will keep using my iPhone. All is right in the world.
