Amazon To Acquire Netflix [Rumor]

By Holden Page on July 13, 2009

amazonLooks like Netflix, the wildly popular online movie rental service might get acquired. Netflix shares have jumped 6 points due to some round about speculation of a possible acquisition by online retail giant Amazon. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet and neither company is commenting on the rumors floating around the web.

It would be interesting to see Amazon acquire Netflix. Amazon has attempted to enter the Netflix arena before, especially with streaming movies/tv shows, but have not been able to gain any ground. This would give Amazon their needed foot in the door and if the price is right, save them a lot of time and effort. Amazon has also been able to work out deals with labels before, being the first to provide DRM free music from all four music labels. If Amazon acquired Netflix this could potentially be great for the consumers who stream on a regular basic but want more content.
