Well, now we have some numbers. Bing, through all the pre hype, launch hype, post launch hype, and foolish analyst coverage, has manged to meaningfully grow its market share. According to Reuters Bing’s total market share rolled in a total of 8.23% of searches in June. This is a increase from 7.81% in May, and 7.21% in April. Of course, Google took a 78.48% of the market. Yahoo remained mostly unchanged, edging up a total of 0.05%.
Of course this merely one months data, but trends are now emerging that say that Bing might be growing off of something more than the hype the nearly sunk TechMeme. Bing’s market share hit a high in the middle of the month, declined, and then rebounded. Of course, the decline was to be expected, but the rise seems to attest to some inherent strength in the product over time in the eyes of the consumer.
Or was it the incessant advertising of the product?
If is too early to tell. But Bing is a quality product, that seems to be a fair competitor, in the eyes of users and technology analysts. If this current trend continues in the coming months, expect Google to revamp to fight it effectively. This is war, and search is cash money, this one is going to the digital mattresses. More as it comes.
