Facebook Access Blocked In China

By Alex Wilhelm on July 7, 2009

Continuing our coverage of the great firewall of China, we have news that Facebook has been blocked. The news came in this morning, via a comment from Beijing. Wordpress claims that comment was written at 4:08 am, when our fine editorial staff was asleep:

“In China, and Facebook is now blocked as well, as of about an hour ago. It’s currently ~7 PM Beijing time.” – From ChinoTex

Of course, if you recall yesterday’s coverage of the debacle, China had shut down the internet in various locations, to control the news about ethnic rioting. It must have worked, the stories that I have seen on the issue seem to be focused mostly on the lack of coverage that it is receiving. If you missed the previous coverage, you can read it here.
