The Google App Engine has Failed

By Holden Page on July 2, 2009

Well we are officially seeing the woes of depending upon another company for your start-ups needs. First it was Rackspace that went down earlier this week andtoday Google App Engine has went down for nearly four hours. That is pretty depressing considering the fact it is suppose to be running off of the best data store in town.

What makes this worse though is the huge blow to cloud computing. A lot of people consider cloud computing to be a phase and undependable. While I believe it is the future, it is stuff like this that it makes it harder for me, as well as others, to defend cloud computing. Two of the largest companies in cloud computing in one week failed for long periods of time, that is just bad any way you spin it.

This outage apparently has affected other Google projects such as the Chrome for Mac. Looks like cloud computing has taken a large blow this week and it is going to take a lot to regain confidence. What’s next, Amazon?
