Microsoft Changes Laptop Ad – Apple Corporation Weak

By Alex Wilhelm on July 24, 2009

The old adage, among normal people, that goes a bit like this: “if you cannot take, don’t dish it.” Apple, screw you. Here, I make a case against the Apple corporation, not Apple products. Apple, after raising a stink, threatening lawsuits, and generally being a small child, has made Microsoft change its ads. I bet they chuckled all the way to their Mac Pros to edit their anti-Mac commercials, on Final Cut Pro.

Point is, after years of the simplistic “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC!” commercials, making unfair, ridiculous claims about PC’s, Apple ran to momma after getting slapped, just a little. Ask me how bad I feel for Apple. Oh wait. Advertising Age will explain the rest, it makes me want to pull my hair out.

  1. Although it sucks to see Microsoft buckling under the pressure from Apple, I’m glad to see they’re not buckling much. These ads are really ingenious. Although I am neither a fan of Microsoft or Apple, it is nice to see MS taking a shot back at Apple.

I mentioned a while back that, even with the reduction in prices from Apple, their equipment is still radically more expensive than comparable PC equipment. The average consumer will never see a return on that investment. What’s more, for high-end consumers, the PC still offers better specs than the top-of-the-line Apple computer. PCs have the possibility of including faster processors and more memory than an Apple computer is currently capable of handling.

So, no matter which way you look at it, you are getting a lot more for your money (hardware-wise) with a PC than you will with a Mac. I’m glad to see Microsoft pushing that idea without having to stoop to perpetuating stereotypes the way the Mac vs. PC commercials have.
