If you have not seen this video, you must. That out of the way, how would you monetize it? I bet you are thinking banner advertisements. That will work. Very poorly, but it will work; it will derive revenue from the views. I bet you that those banner ads are about as well targeted as a shotgun blast from Ol’ Dick.
Let’s try something else. Instead of trying to have me lose belly fat while I watch this wedding, how about you offer me something cheap, accessible, and cogent. What do you think would happen? If you said “lots of sales,” you win a free beer. Collectible if you track me down at a bar.
That is what the owner of “Forever” did. And the results were killer. According to the mouth that feeds, Google, the song shot up to number four in iTunes and number three on the Amazon mp3 store. Impressive. We are talking tens and tens of thousands of sales. Everyone here won, the wedding got to use the song online (for free), YouTube received ten million plus views that were monetized, and record bastards labels were able to sell a pile of pop.
Now tell me that DRM was a good idea?
