Myspace Mail Will Launch This Thursday

By Holden Page on July 22, 2009

It has been rumored for a long time but it looks like Myspace is finally getting serious about their web mail product. This thursday, according to reports from PaidContent, Myspace will officially roll out its webmail product to various users on Myspace starting thurday.

The launch of Myspace Mail will not be a full roll-out and is expected to be introduced to users over the next year. With this roll-out, Myspace will become one of the biggest e-mail providers on the web, with nearly 130 million users that could potentially be using Myspace Mail.

While I don’t expect that all Myspace users will be using Myspace Mail you can bet a good amount will be. Not everyone has ditched Myspace and a lot of people still love the slowly faltering social network. This is also a big deal for artists. I go too A LOT of concerts and I have yet to see an artist tout Facebook over Myspace, giving artist’s a Myspace Mail account will keep artist’s around for the long haul. Myspace is already a central part of communication for artists and their listeners, adding mail to that is a huge benefit for them.

I still can’t help but think though that this is a feature Myspace should’ve rolled out months ago. Everyone, including dedicated users of Myspace, are flocking towards Facebook at incredible rates. If Facebook decided to implement this feature today you can be sure that more people woud be using there Facebook e-mail address more than their Myspace, excluding artists.

In a positive light though, it looks like Myspace is starting to get the ball rolling. So while Myspace may be faltering, don’t count it out yet. I am sure there are a few more tricks up its sleeve.
