BetaWorks is at it again, giving the ever popular TweetDeck a 2 million pound round. TweetDeck, of course the wildly popular Twitter client and now iPhone application. Hopefully this will double down their finances and propel them into the next round of development. Same question as always: monetization?

The funny thing is that TweetDeck could very easily monetize before Twitter itself. Here’s a thought: give users 100 API hits an hour for free, and charge a $5 fee if you want 150 hits. I wouldn’t recommend that exactly, as screwing the free users out of what they already have rarely works, but I’d pay for that. Hell, TweetDeck could put a donate link on the website and start making money.
