It seemed that just yesterday the RIAA was promoting the ever foolish and annoying DRM to the ends of the earth. It was there to make it all fair, whatever you bought was yours! Of course, this was provided you used it only on a very select sampling of devices and stores associated with that flavor of DRM. Or: whatever music ecosystem you were using had you by the digital balls. Happily, this is coming to an end.
“DRM is dead, isn’t it?” Who said that? Not the enlightened commenters at Digg or Reddit, but Jonathan Lamy, chief spokesperson for the RIAA. That is right, the paid talker for the shadow government of the RIAA said publicly that DRM is totally hosed. Not that we always saw this coming, but the fact that they have removed their blinders and pulled off their shades to embrace the world as it is warms me.
But we are not done yet, no sir. The RIAA still exists, and still has a nefarious soul. This has still been a skirmish in the war. Us versus them. Or, more accurately, the artists versus them with us the dedicated listeners in the middle. What is coming next I do not know, but at least we all now agree on what century it is.
