While Google is admirably free, the carriers behave otherwise, as Stephen intimates.

Rogers here in Canada has been incredibly unhelpful about easily fixable bugs such as SMS messages' having timestamps that are hours off. Getting your phone rooted is not a trivial task. And Canadians have choices for software but the main, pre-installed Market is stupidly crippled--there is no paid content. HTC and Rogers persist in pointing fingers at each other over that issue.

I gather that carriers may not really be aware of what they are selling. Overall they much prefer the paradigm of controlling the user through the handset, a model they are comfortable and familiar with.

The no Sense on MyTouch is a function of T-Mobile. It'll work on the handset, but you'll have to go through rougher channels to get it.

With all of the articles out now about the trouble with iPhone and people considering to "jailbreaking" and using Clydia, This is where Android's major selling point is. It is free to use, change, and install whatever you want. Now all we need to expect is the service providers starting to whine that some app is taking up too much bandwidth.....that day will come

They just released an Android phone here in Japan, and I am actually considering that over the iPhone. I like the freedom of movement per se.
