We all know that Bing is doing well, through brute force dollar promotion and the intrinsic value of a powerful product, but what could be better than to take a different tool and bake it in giving Bing new superpowers? Nothing in fact could be better, at least according to the Bing and Wolfram Alpha teams that are apparently in cahoots. Of course, Bing and Wolfram Alpha cover very different areas of the internet world of search, which makes them potent complements.
Google has been attempting to do various computational upgrades to compete with Wolfram Alpha, more or less to ensure that it keeps its current high watermark as the top nerd infused search engine. Bing decided against trying to build the third wheel, and is now working with Team Wolfram to integrate Wolfram Alpha results into the Bing ecosystem. Looks like Wolfram Alpha finally did find their business model and long term niche.
And you thought that they were in this for the nerd-cred.
This is a smart move on the part of both Bing and Wolfram. It adds another layer to Bing to use in its now-and-forever more war with the Thor-like Google, and gives Wolfram Alpha enough cashflow to keep working away at their product. What could be better? Perhaps I should switch over to Bing, but until they pull the pictures in the background I refuse.
