Clicky Launches URL Shortener

By Alex Wilhelm on August 28, 2009

clicky.meIf you shorten URL’s take note of this, a new URL shortener is about to take over the OK corral. Clicky web analytics, [disclosure: I am good friends with the founders, and have worked for Clicky in the past] a very popular analytics package used by over 128,000 websites have just launched Clicky.me, a new tool for Clicky users. The tool is aimed at Clicky users that need deeper information on visitors once they reach their webpage. Clicky.me helps you continue to track users actions after their initial landing, something that most other services fail to do well. Because they built both the URL shortener and the analytics package, the integration is seamless. A breakdown of exactly how Clicky.me works can be found here.

Sadly, you will not see Clicky.me built into your favorite Twitter client, ever. Clicky.me is restricted to only registered Clicky users. In classic freemium style, paid Clicky users have unlimited shortens per day, while free users are limited. Clicky continues to add more and more depth to their product, constantly adding to its edge over the stalwart Google Analytics and the upstart Woopra. Of course, I am wildly biased, given my friendship with the Clicky team, but this product tickles me in the right direction. Shortened URL’s and analytics services have never worked well together, often missing hits of mislabeling them as generic traffic. This is a step in the right direction.

Now two days into the project, the shortener is picking up traction. You can track its use here, over the last few days several hundred tweets have gone out with a clicky.me link embedded. Not bad for another goddamn URL shortener.
