Recall back to when you were a student. How much time did you spend playing minesweeper or checking your email instead of studying? At least for me, most of the time. I hardly recall the thing called biology. ClaseMovil is a new startup that has built an online location where children can go and learn. Of course, they put sugar in their tea – this is going to work for kids.
The concept of building “games” that kids can play to master “recognized skills and subject competencies” is going to appeal to parents, especially the parents of tech-savvy children who can hack past any parental filter. Why not use the carrot?
The company claims that we are facing a crisis in education, and more so in Latin America. The startup claims that Latin American countries are towards the very bottom of the world. Their plan is to take the problems that are in the Latin world, and turn them into “hundreds” of game applications.
ClaseMovil, is a environment to help combat poor education through games that will help bring children back up to speed with the rest of the world. The startup has created 100’s videos of in house videos to encourage children to read and learn. They even have their own video player. At the end of each video the student can rewatch or move on. Each video moves farther and farther ahead inside of the application to learn more and more
Also, the system creates competitions to encourage children to do better than their friends, forcing them unknowingly into excelling in learning. The suite links into teaching suites, via their class platform. It gives reports to assist teachers in planning their lessons. ClaseMovil gives graphs of student performance, allowing teachers to pick and choose the correct things to focus on. Also, the application can zoom into a single student, for personalized help. Of course, teachers have admin capacity to keep an eye on their students inside this oddly cartoonish world.
The company has a prior investment of $500,000, all of which was used to build the product in Mexico. As of now, the product is specifically targeted for Latin America. We’ll fill you in if the product is redone for the rest of the world.
