HealthyWage Wants To Pay You To Get Fit #tc50

By Alex Wilhelm on September 14, 2009

Healthywage-logoHealthyWage wants to pay you for losing weight. Have some extra pounds, and need some extra dollars? The company works with firms to implement health challenges to incentivize employees to do something healthy. They are launching the BMI challenge to help people move their BMI to a normal range for a cool $1000.

It’s a standard rule of economics, if you want something to happen, offer a check.

HealthyWage, once it is linked to an employee, offers a running control panel to track your progress along the way to fix your BMI. The challenge, which lasts just one year, has the participants go to doctors to see if they made their final goal.

We’re actually a little concerned about this company. While TechCrunch certainly has a lot to say, that doesn’t change the fact that healthyWage could be out of business rather quickly. As we reported earlier, there’s a new law in the works which could make sharing personal information illegal unless consumers opt in. HealthyWage’s business model is to sell health data for cash, so the business model might be DoA.
