LearnVest Helps You With Your Finances #TC50

By Alex Wilhelm on September 15, 2009

LearnVest is going to change the way that people work with their money. If you are stuck reading books that do not help, and at the same time cannot afford a very expensive personal financial advisor, then LearnVest might just be the thing for you. LearnVest first runs you through a long series of needed hoops to find out exactly what the status of your finances are. How much debt are you in? Do you have your credit score? What major life events are coming up? Perhaps a baby, or grad school?

After running your through all of your information, LearnVest generates a detailed list of step by step directions to help you go from where you are right now, to where you want to be, based upon your answers to the questionnaire that you filled out. Put simply,  they will diagnose where you are financially. Then they help you get organized, and walk you through your life plan. Finally, they want to reward you  by getting to where you want to be.

The company will monetize mainly through advertising, lead generation, and eventually some form of freemium offering. The last bit of their plan does seem odd, however. Charging people to get out of debt? Ridiculous!

  1. Sad to say, your article gives me more information that the developer’s website.

The static image says to give them your email address if you would like to be included in their closed beta but gives no place to enter your address.

Then… When I went back to the site 10 minutes later the teaser page was gone and I was met with an Apache error page.

Hmmmm. Should I be taking financial advice from someone who starts touting product at trade shows and is already delivering website errors? Especially considering this is MY MONEY you are dealing with.

    We shall see.
