Localytics Changing The Mobile Analytics Landscape

By Alex Wilhelm on September 11, 2009

Localytics logoTechStars darling Localytics is up and running, straight into  your mobile phone. The new startup has built a platform that is both flexible and “real time” to track application usage across multiple platforms. If you develop for mobile applications, you might want to sit up and take note. Localytics breaks down usage of your application in any way that you want, you can even compare differing platforms. Hell, we could use this to prove that Android users are less intelligent than iPhone users. [Half the TG team uses Android - Ed.]

Localytics of course has competition in this space, like Medialets, Flurry, and others. However, after watching their one minute demo video, it is plain to see that they have built a compelling platform that is ready to use. Impressive, given the TechStars funding level. They are out of the gate running, and seem to be have significant momentum.

And happily, they in fact have a business model that should server them well in the coming years. They are on, my favorite, the freemium model giving away basic service while charging power users. TechCrunch reports that they have 60 customers on board at the moment, and are growing at a rate of 10 weekly. Not bad if you just launched.

All in all, Localytics is one of the more promising startups that we have seen recently out of the incubator space. They do have competition, but given how new their market is, and how quickly it is growing, it is safe to say that this company has a bright future ahead of it. Only question, how are the going to effectively get the word out in the face of better established competition? Their Twitter account, with a paltry 153 followers is not helping. Perhaps some VC will come by and give them an advertising budget.
