Microsoft Beats Apple To The Punch With Impressive Tablet Demo

By Alex Wilhelm on September 22, 2009

Despite all of the many swirling rumors around the Apple tablet, Microsoft has been plugging away on their own device. To quote Gizmodo, “maybe we’ve all been dreaming about the wrong device.” Strong words from a trusted source. All of this new hubbub (or perhaps PubSubHubBub, if you follow such things), is teaming from a single video about the “Courier,” which is a tablet computer comprised of two separate 7″ screens that work together to create a new mobile touchscreen experience.

To begin, before we take a look the UI itself, feast your eyes some of the external shots:

If that was not yet enough to make you begin to subconsciously reach for your wallet, how about this: this device is for real and is almost past its prototype stage. This device just might see the light of day. Tell you what, if this and whatever Apple comes up with are placed side by side, I will be curious to see which device moves more units in each moment.

Details are still quite scarce, but we recommend that you watch the video that Gizmodo has, there is nothing more illuminating about the device than that. Watch it, then consider what chance yesterday you would have given for Microsoft to have made such a device. No,  I posit it to you that indeed if there were an Apple logo on this device, it would already be the top voted story on Digg.

  1. I wonder if this’ll drive Apple’s tablet into the spotlight ahead of the much-rumored schedule.

Also, did anyone else notice the super Zune HD-like interface? That is hot. If Windows 7 Mobile is based around that, I will be very happy.

    • I was thinking the same thing about the interface. That’s what I’ve been saying all along about the next incarnation of Windows Mobile.

      It does look very cool.
