Penn and Teller, veterans of the Las Vegas magic scene, and creators of the great television program “Bullshit!” are in the house this morning at the TechCrunch50. Today, the have unveiled their first ever iPhone application called “The Penn and Teller Magic Chat Trick.” Penn and Teller are part of the very first panel here at the TechCrunch50. Judges are Yossi Vardi, Ron Conway, George Zachary, Jason Hirschhorn, and Ron Dodge are in the house to give feedback.
Lame of lames, Penn and Teller could not make it to the event, leaving us with two nerds on stage. They asked her to name a card. She said the eight of hearts. She asked the iPhone app what card. “Penn Jillete” texted back, it’s the eight of hearts.
Then, BAM, Penn came onto stage. Now, for the real application. The application is a card trick, and it works with or without a card deck. Penn made Don Dodge lick a card and then wandered over to the application, which works via text message. Dodge then texted in and asked what card in fact was on his forehead. He then looked at the card, received a number of texts from Teller, and then the application messed with his mind for a while, and then told him what his card was.
Penn says that the app was to help people have a ready to download card trick, without work. You key in the answer when you launch it, and it will fool the shit out of your friends.
