It’s all bad in the music world, and their mobile fiefdom is no outlier. Long term profit source of the music industry, ringtones, have declined a shocking 23% just so far this year. Apparently in face of cooling consumer demand, the industry is just going to have to crank that squeezing profit margin, to quote the modern music movement.
Of course, this comes as no real surprise to anyone familiar with the online bazaar’s for the procurement, which are more spam laden than a cold war suburban bomb shelter. Consumers could have quite possibly gotten fed up with the hijinks that were in place, just to get their phone to explain to them that shaking their booty while answering the phone. That must not be the only reason, just looking at the current economic state should be enough to explain some of the drop. When you have less money, what goes first? The most frivolous of your purchases, which just might be that 8th ringtone.
Personally, I just leave my iPhone on silent. You never have to answer it then.
All things in the same pot, this is merely another lean on music industry. Given their track record they will most likely respond negatively, raising prices, or pressuring their distributors into taking smaller cuts. Whatever happens, I would bet you dollars to donuts, that the websites demonstrating how to get ringtones onto your phone for free are doing alright at the moment.
