StorySomething Tells Children Sweet Nothings #tc50

StorySomething is an internet platform with a mobile arm that tells children’s stories, the way that you want them to be told. Of course, children’s books are a dime a dozen, but who knows your child better than you? Of course, if you could dig into that deep read “Digging Diggers Dig Dirt” and make it better,  you would, right?

StorySomething is betting that that is the case. The market for children’s books is over 3 billion dollars a year, but read less than 5 minutes a day for their children. StorySomething takes a story, and changes the names around to make the story revolve around your life, and your family. The team claims that that in and of itself is enough to make the story “magical” enough for children.

The application allows for the story to be read from your laptop, iPhone, or be printed for easy access. Additionally, the stories will be available on the Kindle (so Sony Reader support should not be too far in the distance). The application can also be set up to send you stories on on a certain topic, customized, and delivered at your set time to give you that 15 minutes of reading with your child.

Past the short story format, it is also possible with the application to create “choose your own adventure” stories with the application with input from the child from the beginning to the end.

The content comes from commissioned established authors, and the crowd. Of course, children’s publishers receive tens of thousands of submissions, but reject them all. StorySomething will take your rejected manuscript, and bring it to the masses. This is not only brilliant, but also is fucking brilliant. Cheap amazing content, and there is always more incoming.

The service is freemium, with the majority of the features being free for all, though you’ll need to drop $3 a month for full access.. I am going to subscribe to read to my nephew the moment that this launches. Sadly, the product is not yet ready for launch, but you can email Jim@storysomething.com and ask him for a beta invite.
