Stribe will take your website and turn it into a social network in just 60 seconds, at least if you fill in all of the forms before the demo is started. Stribe adds a small lower bar to the bottom of the webpage, with social functions that add a thin veneer of “social network” to your website. The demo is still going on, but the founders from Paris seem like really cool guys. More enthusiasm than Team America.
Joining the “social network” for the website is simple as pushing “join” and then filling in data, and then watching a seemingly single stream, of Twitter like updates and direct messages from other people in the “social network.” Problem, what the hell is this? It seems like this would be very useful for one time event websites (like the TC50 example that they used). In fact, I could see them pioneering the very first concept of “throw away social networks and social presences.”
Do you see it? If you are going to a Metallica concert (good idea), you might want to interact with other attendees before the show, but not after. So, if there was a temporary social network that could be installed and then deleted, I might use it. I probably would have for the #TC50. In one way or another.
It always seems interesting when a social startup does not integrate with any other social system. Where was the Twitter and Facebook integration? Odd, given that that is all that some startups have! We are going to be keeping an eye on Stribe, if they guide the product, there could be something here.
