A TechCrunch50 Story And A Sunday Afternoon

By Alex Wilhelm on September 27, 2009

I just got back to Chicago, and ran into a good deal of alcohol and friends at the same time. Good times have ensued. Given this decimated bottle  of vodka that sits before me, and this attacked thirty pack of beer, I have had a great 24 hours. However, all that aside, let’s talk about technology. Primarily, the TechCrunch50.

I have been meaning to write a spoof post on MG Siegler for quite some time now, but have yet to do it. That said, I did run into MG at the TC50, with his odd hair and low key disposition. Nice guy, I must say. All that and he has better grammar than I do, well done sir.

Well, the story goes like this. After two days and 50 blog posts on TC50 startups I was quite tired, and was therefore duly excited when I learned that following the last presentation  of the conference, Bing was buying everyone drinks. I do enjoy drinking, and so I was enthralled by the time to lay low the laptop and embrace the booze. So, I did so with dispatch.

In between a talk with Loren Feldman and someone from Harpers magazine, I ran into MG, and asked my question: would it be alright if I did a spoof piece on you? Of course he said, why not? At least, that is what I think that I said. Might have come out: “MG, canna eye permaps right somt1ng aboot you?”

Not sure, but by that point I was barely there.

It’s not my fault, I blame the bartenders. They were not allowed to give out bottles of beer, so instead they kept giving me 1.5 beers in two glasses. That after all of the  mixed drinks and before the wine was quite a trip. Even someone as experienced as myself was in trouble. Still, all in good fun. 25 posts a day will kill you, especially after the second day.

Anyway, MG has given me express permission to spoof him, and that will be forthcoming. Near future, if  you will. All things in one pan frying, I am trying to channel my inner Paul Carr on this post. However, no amount of morning beer will make me as verbose. Hitchens aside, it seems to be a British virus. Thank god for Obama and terseness? We shall see.

That said, a thank you to all the hundreds and hundreds (alright: thousands) of loyal TG readers who come back for our writing every day. We know you all and love your recurrence. That is all for now, until later, read this by Scoble. Talk to  you all tomorrow.

  1. As one of the people sitting behind you at TC50 (we also met outside the event before the Bing free for all) I will say you surely deserved those drinks. I was stressed just watching you!

    Looking forward to the spoof.
